How to think differently - in a given situation
Every one says about "Positive approach". You will ask about why no body
speaks about how and where in certain circumstances the positive approach will
come! Particularly the "positive approach" does not arise when you were
blatantly over ruled, when you were directly side stepped, when
were shamelessly ignored, when you were brazenly disqualified and when you were
audaciously suppressed. You will feel injustice when you were denied some
thing for which you were hoping, yearning and expecting as if it was rightfully
belongs to YOU. Where and how and why the positive approach can be
applied - when everything was getting finished and closed!
That was the kind of situation where people will be divided into two different
segments. One: Those who fight tooth-and-nail till the end - like a Football
match and; Two: Those who maintain salience and leave the result to the
luck. The people who come under the classification of TWO are most
dangerous and willingly suffer as victim of depression. The fighters -
extroverts - rarely find themselves in depression as they have faced the
situation head-on. And by which they had the opportunity to rip open the
opposition and whatever they spoke in the public debate, that was cleaned their
heart and mind and the mind is full of satisfaction that they have revolted
against the decision.
On the other hand, the introverts - who left the results to the God, ware not
in a position to accept the God to take the decision. They start looking
at the issue with one single eye, and with magnifying glasses.
Recently my boss was in depressed mood as the billings were reduced and order
book was nil. I talked to him for a while and came back to my seat and
casually browsed the Internet for blogs and I saw this quotation:
To those who have pushed me, thank you,
Without you, I wouldn't have fallen
To those who have laughed at me, thank you
Without you, I wouldn't have cried
To those who just couldn't love me, thank you
Without you, I wouldn't have known real love
To those of you who hurt my feelings, thank you
Without you, I wouldn't have felt them
To those of you, who left me lonely, thank you
Without you, I wouldn't have discovered myself.
But, to those who thought I couldn't do it,
It is to you I thank the most because
Without you, I wouldn't have tried.
I took the print out and send it him. And he got
it printed on a large sheet and fixed it on the side of his table.
Depression is nothing but self-pity. And the
self-pity develops into suicidal tendencies or in some circumstances converts
the person into Psychopath. The tendency of depression or the nature of
depressed person is unpredictable. There are timings where he will be out of
depression but totally under the control of depression. In a way, he will
gain the strength through the depression over a time by consoling himself and
compromising to the situation and accepting the mind and feelings. The
self-pity then takes the turn of the revenge. If not suicide! Then that
situation is dangerous for the society. He will conclude and reason that he has
been selected and elected to bat for all the depressed people in the world,
that his actions will have direct impact on the people who were responsible for
his depression. And surprisingly for him it was not depression at that
time but a cause for which he has to stand and act.

Why all the religions world over - Hindu, Christianity, Islam and Sikhism - talked about the GOD, a power which is beyond human, above human and which is capable of controlling the humanity? Why these religions in their own separate ways and means propagate that there some thing above us and one has to turn to him when in distress? It's nothing but to discourage the man from depression.
When you were swimming in a high and flooded river, when the shore was not in sight, when there was nothing around except the powerful current taking you in circles in swirling chilly waters, you will hope for some thing to hang-on, some thing to take you to the shore, some thing which can give you the assurance that your life is safe - a light on distance shore, a sound of s motor boat, a large wooden plank near by you or at least the sudden decline in the speed of current.
You will try many alternatives, looking for
number of rescue operations and unless you are being pulled down inside the waters - your hopes are alive and you continue to swim. Compare this situation with yours! You will agree that you are in a better position than that person in the middle of the river. You have more alternatives, and you need not search for some thing as fast as the man in the river. You have time, you have resources unknown to you, you are yet to talk to your relatives, your age is your advantage, your responsibilities
are not much, and you have more opportunities other than this.
Mind you one thing that the man is able to swim continuously; may be he is
being carried away by the current or may be he is swimming along with the
current - the point is that he is afloat and alive and literally kicking!
Visualize his mind at that juncture -for a
change.
-
He will be hoping to get the shore
-
He will be anticipating some rescue operation
-
He will be thinking that the speed of the current will slow down gradually
-
Then he will think about his experience
-
How he will narrate the story to his family and friends
-
How other will received it
-
How he will reach home and surprise all
-
He will laugh at himself for his present situation
-
If only he has returned home without trying to see the velocity of current?
-
What will be the situation if he dies
-
He feels that this situation is unique to him
-
Having known and looking at the death in its eyes - yet still alive!
-
Suddenly he will look around and start kicking the legs
-
He will wait and observe the speed
-
He has got all the time in the world to find the alternatives
-
That too in the middle the death.

Really if you look at the situation in a
different way..
-
The man must be kicking too much in hope to reach the shore quickly
-
His mind is totally blank and more worried about how he can save himself
-
He is concerned about his family and his life
-
He is depressed and unable to think any thing except to reach the shore
-
He is unmindful about over doing the swimming there by making himself weak
-
His movements will be erratic without any goal
-
His thoughts are centered around the possible death
-
He may - eventually - get heart attack and die!
